Osotspa Announces Mission Towards Carbon Neutrality Gathering Energy to Save the World from All Sectors, Opening a Forum to Expand 'Public-Private' Cooperation

Climate change has a tremendous impact on our world across various dimensions, from global warming driven by the rising world temperature to the increasing severity of natural disasters. In response, many countries worldwide are actively working together to mitigate its effects on the environment in order to save and heal our planet by collectively setting up the 17 Sustainable Development Goals including signing the Paris Agreement to limit the rise in world temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius in this century. Thailand, on the other hand, has announced its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065 at the COP26 summit, which was organized by both public and private sectors to push towards this objective.

Osotspa Public Company Limited, one of Thailand’s leading consumer product manufacturers with over 132 years in the business, is aware of the issue and has established a sustainable development roadmap. The company has also built a cooperative network with both public and private sectors for the “save the world” mission. As part of their efforts, the company raised public awareness by organizing the “Sustainability Dialogue: Mission to Carbon Neutral” seminar. This event, conducted in collaboration with the public sector, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), an SME representative, and public organizations, aimed to exchange insights, establish a cooperative network, and address the direction of the government’s sustainability policy. The event holds the potential to foster business network development and collaboration aimed at reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Mrs. Wannipa Bhakdibutr, Chief Executive Officer of Osotspa Public Company Limited, revealed that Osotspa has incorporated sustainability development into its business operations since 2019. The company has set up a short-term framework to be achieved by 2025, focusing on five key aspects:

  1. Sustainable supply chain: Creating economic opportunities with 450 small business partners, developing and enhancing the lives of 500 local raw material suppliers, and ensuring that 100% of key business partners pass the ESG assessment.
  2. Consumer health and well-being: Adjusting 100% of the beverage product portfolio to be low-sugar and making 50% of healthcare products and confectionery non-sugar.
  3. Sustainable packaging and green materials: Committing to making 100% of product packaging recyclable, reusable, or biodegradable by 2030.
  4. Water supply management: Aiming to reduce water usage in production by 40%.
  5. Energy and climate change management: Striving to lower the energy used in factories by 10% and reduce greenhouse gases emitted from production by 15%. The ultimate goal is to cut down greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, leading to carbon neutrality by 2050.

The “Sustainability Dialogue: Mission to Carbon Neutral” seminar garnered collaboration from various sectors, including the government, private sector, SMEs, and public organizations, with representatives from these entities such as (1) Pavich Kesavawong, deputy director-general of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, (2) Ms. Anothai Sangthong, Director of Communications and Carbon Credit Registry Office, (3) Ms. Ratchada Wanichakorn, Director of Tax Planning Office, Excise Department, (4) Dr. Soraphol Tulayasathien, Senior Executive Vice President Head of Corporate Strategy Division and Head of Sustainable Market Development Division, and (5) Mr. Sangchai Theerakulvanich, President of The Federation of Thai SME.

“Sustainable development is part of both public and private policies, covering 3 aspects such as environment, social, and governance (ESG). The biggest picture of sustainable development among many organizations revolves around the commitment and goal to cut down greenhouse gas emissions from production and consumption processes, including conservation and efficient use of resources. We truly believe that a clear goal and business framework that covers all three mentioned aspects with employees as its key drivers will allow Osotspa to achieve the goal set forth,” said Mrs. Wannipa.
