Osotspa Promotes Green Power, Creates Opportunities and Brings Happiness to Community through "Osotspa Cares the Community, Protects the Environment" Project

Ms. Sutida Siamharn, Head of Corporate Communication and CSR and Ms. Papitchaya Suntep, Head of Sustainability, Osotspa Public Company Limited, delivered equipment for waste separation to representatives of pilot communities surrounding the head office and participating in the project “Osotspa Cares the Community, Protects the Environment,” which aims to promote waste sorting among consumer to bring waste into the recycling process Moreover, Osotspa will donate to the public benefits fund when receiving every 1 kg of glass bottles. This is to promote green power in the community, create value for waste, increase income for Saleng and bring happiness to the community.

Nowadays, consumers emphasize responsible consumption, and many want to protect the environment through separating waste. However, the lack of equipment or time to take the garbage to the buyer makes it impossible. Through our vision to be the power to enhance life, along with the determination to grow with Thai society sustainably, Osotspa is aware of these obstacles and ready to support waste separation at source, a key in reducing waste and bringing the recyclable waste to the recycling process, as much as possible, to reduce the environmental impact in a sustainable way.

Osotspa recognizes the importance of the power of the community in reducing the impact of living on the environment. Therefore, the project “Osotspa Cares the Community, Protects the Environment” was initiated to encourage communities to separate waste and bring in recyclable waste to the recycling process as much as possible by providing equipment for separating waste. The project also involves sending volunteer staff to hand out information and advice on how to separate waste to the community. This is to create an understanding of the proper way in separating waste.

Not only to encourage household waste separation, but the project also includes waste collection and systematic recycling. Osotspa has provided standard waste collection equipment that helps increase work safety for garbage collectors or Saleng that participates in the project. After the household separates the garbage, recyclable waste will be placed in the trash received from the project to be conveniently collected by Saleng. Then, Saleng delivers them to the garbage shop participating in the project. Those waste then go into the recycling process as appropriate for each type of waste. The used glass bottles are sent to Osotspa’s recycling center to be used as raw materials of new glass bottle production. Currently, Osotspa uses cullets as the main raw material in producing glass bottles. As a result, it can reduce the use of natural resources, such as sand in production by up to 90%. In addition to promoting the separation of recyclable waste, the project encourages communities to separate infectious waste, especially the face mask, by putting it into an airtight bag and dumping it in an infected waste bin given by the project in order to prevent the spread of germs and virus to the community and the Saleng person.

Recyclable waste is not only valuable to the recycling process but also valuable to the community as well. Every time that the participant Saleng picks up trash from each house, he/she keeps a record of the amount of waste that has been donated. Those donation amounts allow homeowners to convert into points for redeeming Osotspa products. In addition, the company contributes 50 satangs for every 1 kg of glass bottles sent back into the recycling process, which later will be used to create public facilities or help the underprivileged. Therefore, it can be said that this project helps people in the community to take pride in caring for the environment, to be happy from sharing to Saleng, as well as improving their community and society.

Miss Thip, Saleng, who participates in the project, said, “I have been collecting garbage around the community for over 30 years. You can see that there is a lot of recyclable waste. But when the paper and bottles are thrown together with the wet garbage, they can't be picked up. I would like to invite everyone to join in separating the trash so that we will have more recyclable waste put into the process.”

Mr. Somsak Changthong, a community leader of Soi Huamark 24 and 28, said, “The community has no hesitation in joining this project because we see that this project is good for the environment. Most importantly, many houses are very happy because they want to separate the garbage, but they don't know where to start. Providing us with equipment and staff who explains the process and coordinating with Saleng, the project allows us to fulfill our intentions to help the environment.”

The project "Osotspa Cares the Community, Protects the Environment" has been piloted with communities surrounding the head office in the Huamark area. After that, the model will be expanded to other communities around Osotspa's offices and factories, located in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Saraburi to send forth this happiness.

Waste separation is an easy way to take care of the environment. Simply develop a habit to think before you throw. Osotspa is proud to join in promoting green power, building environmental care in the community, increasing income for Saleng and creating happiness in the community. Together, we invite Thai people to start separating household waste to turn waste with hidden value into the happiness of the community.
