What is COSMOS?
COSMOS (COSMOS STANDARD) is the most widely used organic and natural cosmetics standard. This Standard has been developed at the European and international level by BDIH(Germany), COSMEBIO & ECOCERT (France), ICEA (Italy) and SOIL ASSOCIATION (UK). With an aim to promote sustainable development among natural cosmetic manufacturers, the standard provides safety controls to the whole supply chain, from ingredient sourcing to distribution. This Standard also promotes the standardization of natural and organic cosmetics. Organik by Babi Mild is certified with both types of COSMOS standards, namely Certification of COSMOS Natural and Certification of COSMOS Organic. Having both types of COSMOS labels is the highest level. The criteria for COSMOS certification are 1. Authentic Organic Ingredients: 95% of the ingredients must be obtained from the COSMOS-certified organic farm. 2. Chemical Free in All Process, covering manufacturing process, storage, and transportation. 3. 100% Recyclable Bottles.

How to apply to certify products with COSMOS standard
The standard divides the type of ingredients used in cosmetic products into five categories and specifies the requirements for each. 1) The water used must comply with hygienic standards (CFU less than 100/ml). 2) Minerals may be used as long as they are obtained without intentional chemical modification and preferably from environmentally sound extraction processes. 3) Physically processed agro-ingredients – may be plant, animal or microbial origin but no GMOs, no critically endangered species, only products of (not a part of) animals. As a result, this standard certifies cruelty free. 4) Chemically processed agro-ingredients – same as above, and the chemical treatments must respect the principles of Green Chemistry.5) Certain other ingredients are allowed as long as there is no effective natural alternative available to ensure the safety of consumers or efficacy of the product.
From now, while shopping for organic products, many moms might read a label carefully to check whether that product is certified by an international organic and natural cosmetics standard, especially COSMOS standard, to use the product that they select for their babies and family with no concern.
